Dr. Michael Lardon has developed strategies for players like Phil Mickelson, Lee Janzen, David Duval and Will Zalatoris to play with a clear, focused mind, make better decisions and handle competitive pressure. At the center of his system is the Mental Scorecard, which is outlined in his book Mastering Golfs Mental Game.
The Mental Scorecard is based on the pre-shot pyramid and its three steps:
1. Use your logical mind (left brain) to factor in variables such as distance, wind, trajectory and club selection.
2. Use creative mind (right brain) to visualize and "feel" the shot.
3. Step into the shot, tighten focus, and execute with either one simple swing thought or none.

Calculating your mental score is simple. Add one mental point for every shot where you fully complete the pyramid, and calculate your mental score for the round as a percentage of your total mental score against your total real score. Tour golfers can typically achieve a mental score of 90% and higher, and the best amateur golfers can surpass 85%, while a typical amateur is below 50%. As mental scores increase over time, golfers will typically see their actual scores and handicaps decrease.
With this new App, Dr. Lardon is making the Mental Scorecard easier than ever. Using your iPhone or Apple Watch, youre able to enter mental and real scores as you play, see your mental score after a round, and track your progress over time.
